Case Studies

Data-driven outcomes from our gamification implementations: engagement, retention, and growth metrics from DeFi, NFT, and DAO projects.

Case Study 1: DeFi Protocol — Staking & Governance Gamification

Client profile: A tier-1 DeFi protocol with significant TVL and a governance token. The team faced low voter turnout, short average staking lock-ups, and difficulty turning passive holders into active participants.

Challenge: Increase staking duration and governance participation without inflating token supply or relying on one-off incentive campaigns.

Solution: Geronix Play designed a quest system tied to staking milestones (e.g. 30-, 90-, 180-day lock-ups) and governance votes. Users earned NFT badges and on-chain reputation for completing quests. Reward curves were calibrated to the protocol's existing emission schedule to avoid additional sell pressure.

+28%
90-day retention (quest completers)

Before: Average staking duration ~45 days; ~12% of token holders voted on proposals in a typical cycle; 90-day retention for stakers ~41%.

After: Average staking duration ~60 days; ~27% of token holders voted in the first full cycle post-launch; 90-day retention for users who completed at least one quest reached 53%. The protocol reported higher quorum and more informed discussion in governance forums.

Case Study 2: NFT Marketplace — Creator & Collector Loyalty

Client profile: A mid-size NFT marketplace with a focus on digital art and collectibles. The team needed to increase repeat visits, secondary sales volume, and creator retention in a competitive landscape.

Challenge: Users often listed or purchased once and did not return. Creators had little incentive to stay exclusive or promote the platform. Revenue depended heavily on one-off acquisition campaigns.

Solution: We implemented a tiered loyalty program for both creators and collectors: points for listing, bidding, buying, and referring. Quests encouraged first purchase, first listing, and streak activity (e.g. 7-day return visits). Top tiers unlocked reduced fees and featured placement. Achievements were displayed on user profiles to drive social proof.

Avg. actions per returning user

Before: Repeat visit rate (30-day) ~22%; secondary GMV growth was flat quarter-over-quarter; average actions per user per month ~1.8.

After: Repeat visit rate increased to ~33% within 90 days of full rollout; secondary GMV grew 38% vs. the quarter before launch; returning users averaged 3.4 actions (list, bid, buy, or refer) per month. Creator churn to competing platforms decreased, and the marketplace could attribute a larger share of volume to loyalty-program members.

Case Study 3: DAO — Voting Participation & Contributor Recognition

Client profile: A large DAO with a diverse treasury and multiple workstreams. Governance suffered from low quorum, few repeat voters, and difficulty recognizing and retaining contributors.

Challenge: Increase voter participation and contributor retention without turning governance into a mercenary incentive game. The DAO wanted participation to feel meaningful and aligned with long-term success.

Solution: Geronix Play designed a participation layer: voting streaks and milestones (e.g. vote in 3 consecutive rounds), contributor levels based on proposals and discussion participation, and non-transferable reputation badges visible on-chain. Small, capped rewards were tied to consistency rather than single votes to avoid gaming. We integrated with the existing snapshot and forum stack.

+44%
Contributor retention (6-month)

Before: Average unique voters per proposal ~1,200; repeat voter rate ~31%; contributor retention (active in two consecutive 6-month windows) ~39%.

After: Unique voters per proposal increased to ~1,930 within two full governance cycles; repeat voter rate rose to ~72%; contributor retention improved to ~56%. The DAO reported higher quality discussion in forums and more proposals reaching quorum on the first try, reducing repeat voting rounds and operational overhead.
